Do you know there are still not proper hand hygiene practice among some fast food vendors in public places ? Although some try to keep up and maintain hand hygiene, many factors such as serving many customers or low staff could not just allow them to fully observe hand hygiene practice. From dairy to solid food vendors, some food handlers use hand gloves in both hands, while some use glove on only one hand. Some use the same glove to handle foods and money. Some do not use gloves at all. Does this mean no fast foods eating for dads again? No ! Busy dads may need fast foods sometimes ! Either at work, on the road, or just being laid-back to cook at home sometimes, if you go for fast foods, ensure these:
- If you can see the food preparation, handing, and wrapping, pay attention to how your foods are handled. Politely reject, if you think the foods do not deserve to enter into your stomach. Forborne disease is real.
- Check your fast foods – burgers, sandwiches, donuts and others, before you put them into your mouth. People have seen dirt on their fast foods before. What about the dirt you cannot see? So be watchful before you start enjoying your assumed best burgers.
- If you must, try to eat your fast food warm, not cold, or try to reheat in microwave for 15-30 seconds before you start eating. What if the servers did not wash his/her hands, when using rest rooms. You can never know.
- Even in case of unseen poor food handling such as unwashed hands by the food handlers, a brief reheating may not save you from the risk of potential food-related illness. Thank God for immune system, that is why most people do not fall sick from such cases. Ensure you take care of your immune system with recommended supplements, food nutrients containing essential vitamins and minerals, and do not engage in high health risk behaviors such as smoking, unprotected sex, alcoholism etc.
